Valtos release ‘the last light’

The Bothy Society is excited to share that Valtos have released their new album, The Last Light, out now on Island Life Records.

Released on 17 April 2026, The Last Light is the band's most ambitious record to date, bringing together sixteen musicians from across the Scottish traditional and folk scene. The album draws on Gaelic song, fiddle, cello, and pipes, set within a production that opens those traditions outwards through electronic textures and cinematic arrangement. The result is a body of work that holds tradition and contemporary form together with care, and that takes its name from the long Scottish evenings that shape the feel of the record.

Valtos have spent the last several years building a distinctive voice in contemporary Scottish music. Their work is rooted in the song traditions, tunes, and voices of Scotland and the Gàidhealtachd, and shaped by a willingness to bring those traditions into conversation with new sounds and new audiences. The Last Light reflects that approach across every track, with guest vocals, string arrangements, and rich layered textures throughout.

The release is being marked with a sold-out launch show at Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom on 25 April 2026, bringing many of the album's contributors together for a one-off performance. It is a fitting setting for a record of this scale, and a moment to share the album with the audiences who have followed the band's work over the years.

The Last Light is available now on CD and vinyl LP, and across all major streaming platforms.

The record reflects what we believe is possible in contemporary Scottish music when artists are given the space and support to build work on their own terms.

Stay tuned for more from Valtos in the months ahead, with further live dates and announcements to follow.
